Shall we play?

Sant Cugat Amb el Poble Saharaui is an association that receives Saharawi children in a shelter in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona) for treating illnesses that are not attended in the refugee camps of Algeria. This is a journey in which children can suffer an emotional impact due to the distance from their families, the cultural contrast and the adaptation process.

After five weeks of working with the children, we developed a game that works as a connecting element between children with other children and between children and the environment. It is designed to establish direct physical relationships and aims to create as many connections as possible in the public space using urban furniture.

Through a game, Sahrawi children can become familiar with the environment in which their shelter apartment is located and understand the urban space as something appropriable. The game becomes an installation that also makes the association visible to the city.
