Shall we play?
Sant Cugat Amb el Poble Saharaui is an association that hosts Saharawi children in a shelter in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Barcelona) to treat illnesses that are not addressed in the refugee camps in Algeria. This journey can have an emotional impact on the children due to the distance from their families, the cultural differences, and the adaptation process.
After five weeks of working with the children, we developed a game that serves as a connecting element—both between the children themselves and between the children and their environment. It is designed to establish direct physical interactions and aims to create as many connections as possible in public spaces using urban furniture.
Through this game, Saharawi children can become familiar with the environment around their shelter and perceive urban space as something they can appropriate. The game also becomes an installation that makes the association visible to the wider city.
