Collective care

Who’s in charge of chores at home?
What does it mean to live collectively?

This project attemps to break the existing scheme in terms of roles and responsibilities within the household through a collective social housing and educational project with a feminist perspective.

It aims to achieve visibility of the domestic and care tasks, converting the daily life tasks into community actions and shared parenting through strategies such as permeabilization, flexibility, and appropriation and rebuilding an industrial warehouse located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona.

The dwelling is made up of 3 different living units. The combination of the units is possible due to the design with openings on both sides. It allows their communication, facilitating the possible expansion of the house according to the needs of each family.

The composition of the windows, symmetrical on each side, attempts to integrate the community space within the house, while offering privacy within the private house. Every habitable space is equal and suitable for any activity or person.

The patios are located in the center of the composition and allow ventilation and proximity to vegetation.
There are seven possible different dwelling configurations thanks to the undifferentiated matrix that characterizes them and the openings in the side walls. The minimum dimensions of the space are compensated by the large community space equipped with multiple services.
